1962 Dodge Dart
In its 3rd year, the Dart was completely restyled. The Seneca, Pioneer and Phoenix series’ were dropped and the Dart 330 and 440 series were added. The Dart series was the base trim level and the Dart 330 the intermediary. The new Dart 440, the top trim line, with its standard 318 V8 engine claimed to accelerate 9% better than last year’s comparable model from 0 to 60 and averaged between 17 and 19 mpg. Dodge reduced dead weight by taking 60 lbs from the automatic transmission, 5 lbs from the starter, eliminating excess chrome and overhang creating a new power-to-weight ratio (as much as 1 horse for every 11 lbs). Continuing on from previous years is the Torsion-Aire Suspension with torsion bars up front and asymmetrical leaf springs in back offer less lean and sway than with coil springs. A welded unitized body provided maximum strength and rigidity helping to eliminate squeaks, creaks and rattles. Wrapping up the exterior was a seven stage rustproofing process of dips and sprays after which two coats of epoxy primer and two baked-on coats of Lustre-Bond Hi Baked Enamel sealed the outside to offer better protection. Options included a Push Button Transmission, Push Button Radios, Dart Forced Air Ventilation, Variable Speed windshield wipers, Padded Dash, Glare-proof Rear View Mirror, Wheel Covers, White Wall Tires, Back-up Lights, Power Steering, Power Brakes. 1962 Dodge Dart Factory Specifications & ProductionModel Number | Body/Style Number | Body Type & Seating | Factory Price | Shipping Weight | Total Production | ||
