The Oldsmobile answer to the Pontiac GTO - 4-4-2 |
1964 Oldsmobile 442
Quick to respond to Pontiac's GTO, Oldsmobile launched its new 442 option on the F-85 and Cutlass. Hence the name, the new 442 option package was based on the inclusion of a 4 barrel carburetor, 4 speed manual transmission and dual exhausts. The 442 package also included heavy-duty shocks, springs, and a rear stabilizer bar, as well as the top 330 V8 engine that was modified with all available police issued equipment including a dual-snorkel air cleaner and premium quality rod and main bearings. Unfortunately, all this was introduced late in model year and just 2,999 cars were produced with the 442 option.
