1966 Dodge Charger

The debut of the new 1966 Dodge Charger
The first Charger joined the Dodge line-up in 1966. Based on the midsize Coronet platform, the Charger included hidden headlamps, full length tail lamps and an interior that was state of the art with four bucket seats and optional front and rear consoles. Not to mention that the rear bucket seats folded down to create a cargo area. With options that packed plenty of power the new '66 Charger could be had with a 426 Hemi, although standard was the 318. Most buyers optioned for the upgraded 363 or 383, still packing plenty of power!
With instant sales success the new Charger sold 37,344 units the first year, with a base price of just over $3100.00 the Hemi option added just $1000.00 to this price and only 468 were optioned with the 426 Hemi. Engines Options and horsepower for the year included the 318 w/ 230hp, the 361 w/ 265hp, the 383 w/ 335hp and the 426 V8 Hemi with 425hp.
