Dodge Charger

First launched in 1966 the Dodge Charger was an instant hit. With the fastback fad of the mid 1960's the new Charger's were a streamlined Coronet with rich interior and plenty of power. From the get-go the Dodge Charger could be had with the all mighty 426 Hemi, and with the Muscle Car Market in full explosion Mopar fans rushed with enthusiasm to purchase the new Charger.
Most note able of all the Dodge Charger's was featured on the hit tv series The Dukes of Hazzard which aired on the CBS television network from 1979 to 1985. The featured car of Bo and Luke Duke was a modified 1969 Dodge Charger. During the airing of the show an estimated 309 1969 Dodge Charger's (General Lee's) were used up and destroyed by performing various jumps and stunts. Today an estimated 25 original General Lee's exist. A countless number of clones and recreations General Lee's have been produced by fans of the tv show from all around the world. The Dodge Charger model was dropped by Dodge in 1978 due to dismal model sales, it returned again in 1983, this time compacting in size as most vehicles during the 1980's were. A limited number a Dodge Charger Daytona's were produced by Carrol Shelby Enterprises in 1984.
